November Sailfishing

November 5th, 2017 by Lady Helen Charters

November marks the beginning of Sailfish season in South Florida and so far the early results bode well for a great season. We set out today heading offshore to find the blue water of the gulfstream.  Mahi – Mahi was going to be the targeted species. Unfortunately  for us by the time we ran about 4 miles out the NE swell started to quickly build to the point  that we had to slow the boat down to trolling speed. Soon even at trolling speed it became unfishable and we turned around and headed inshore to try for a Sailfish at the deep water dropoff. We set up in 125 feet and put a couple of live baits on the kite and a live pilchard  on a 20lb spinning rod. Not long after a hungry Sailfish took off with the pilchard and the fight was on.

Michael Rhodenizer fought this Sailfish on a 20lb spinning rod.
