Yesterday’s trip was with the Swenson family visiting from Portland, Oregon. We decided to start out fishing the first reef just South of the Port Everglades inlet and try to get some fast action for the kids. This turned out to be a great decision we were quickly hooked up with mutton snappers one after another. This red hot bite also included a nice cero mackerel, yellow jack, yellowtail snapper, and blue runner. This smorgashboard of species provide plenty of action and excitement for Townes (7) and Sloane (10) Swenson. We then decided to spend an hour out in deeper water and try for a sailfish or other large gamefish for dad. After an hour or so we had no activity on our live baits dangled from the fishing kite and we decided to run in to the inshore canals and catch a barracuda or jack cravelle before returning to the dock. Townes hooked up and landed a nice jack to top off his birthday trip.
